2XI Player of the Year 1992

Single Wicket Winner 1973 and 1982

History:         Gerry joined Mildenhall Cricket Club in 1973, having moved to the town with his wife Patricia in 1969.

No sooner had he arrived than he began to post cricketing landmarks, which still hold true today (2015). At these times he was consistently recognised by his peers, achieving 1st XI Player of the Year on no fewer than six occasions, and notably for three consecutive years between 1974 and 1976.

Gerry markedly took eight wickets in one match against Deben Valley, having previously gone one better when playing for Higham - his home club before moving to Mildenhall. He was one of the select few players to take 100 wickets in season (1974) for the club, while also taking a hat-trick, and although unusual for a bowler his talents saw him become 1st XI captain.

His qualities secured him two club Single Wicket titles and he also played in the indoor league, featuring in the MCC side that played their way past the county final to the quarter finals of the national competition (1982).

He was a regular contributor to the local mid-week competitions; including the Jubilee, Gibson, Rowntree, and Lil Dic Cups, together with the Orby Wood and Wynn Sharpe Trophy. His final season (1992) was not without acclaim, as his performances secured one last personal achievement, winning the 2nd XI Player of the Year, on which he retired from the game.

Gerry sat on the main committee and during his playing career he would spend countless Tuesday and Friday evenings working on the ground, however it was one contribution that time will never forget, when in 1976 he tirelessly constructed the clubs first ever set of covers, which went to save games from the weather for over twenty years
